Canterbury Plains

Lincoln Vineyard

Situated on the Lincoln University site, the wine made from this site is off a single row of pinot noir vines cropped at 1kg/vine. The ten year old vines were planted on Riparia Gloire rootstocks, in a north-south orientation on double guiyot VSP trellising. The Paparua Series Soil is a free draining, alluvial sandy/silt loam soil classified as immature Pallic. Due to the lack of surrounding viticultural land and high density shelter belts, bird pressure is a particular threat at this vineyard site.

Bethels Road Vineyard

The Bethels Road property is located at the back of Springston in a district dominated by pastoral farming. The block is owned by Pam and Ken Bryan with a mutually beneficial arrangement for the growing of grapes and making of wine. The vineyard aspect is flat and particularly susceptible to frosts, further exacerbated by the low planting height with a fruiting wire at just 50cm above the ground. The six year old vines are all trained single guiyot in a bid to maximise resources to produce the best quality fruit possible. There are ten rows of chardonnay and five rows of pinot noir.
